Medication Administration Provider (MAP) &
Prescribed Enteral Formula Administration (PEFA)

Medication Administration Provider (MAP) and Prescribed Enteral Formula Administration (PEFA) Training is governed by Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) under Rule Chapter 65G-7.

Who is required to take MAP/PEFA Training?
MAP/PEFA Training is required for all unlicensed direct care staff serving clients with developmental disabilities in group homes, adult day programs, foster and family homes, independent and supported living, and any other place that clients receive APD services.

Guidelines Include:
1.When supervision of self-administration of medication by unlicensed direct care staff is appropriate.
2.Rules and instructions for supervising the self-administration of medication.
3.When administration of medication by unlicensed direct care staff is appropriate.
4.Rules and instructions for administering medication.
5.How to safely administer medications by the oral, enteral, topical, transdermal, rectal, inhaled, ophthalmic, and otic routes of administration.
6.How to handle medications safely.
7.How to prevent medication errors.
8.When and how to report any concerns or errors.

How Long Is This Training?
Per APD the Medication Administration Provider (MAP) training must be at least a total of six (6) hours. The Prescribed Enteral Formula Administration (PEFA) Training will be a total of three (3) hours.

How Is Certification Obtained?
You will be provided a certificate of completion once you have completed the six hour training and successfully passed the 60 question multiple choice exam.

When Do I Complete Validation?
Validation will need to be completed on a actually patient with their prescribed medications within thirty (30) days of you completing your MAP/PEFA training and successfully passing the exam. Validation will be completed at your current place of employment or I will arrange validation to be completed at a group home I have partnered with.

How Long Is My Validation Valid?
Your validation will be valid for one (1) year after your validation date. Every year you must be revalidated. If you do not validate prior to your validation expiration date you will be required to retake the six (6) hour MAP training and three (3) hour PEFA and pass exam.

** The PEFA Training can only be taken after successfully completing the MAP Training.**
